she talked about herself a lot
but not egotistically
rather like a survivor of a tragedy
like someone proud to have escaped the black,
like a wounded warrior

proud
to have overcome the damage done
borderline parents mean as rabid badgers
dark secrets
lingering black ash

I know this
and she should be proud
they locked her in a fucking sanitarium
when they were the crazy ones
she saw hideous things there

patients abused, murdered
but she was so bright
she learned to act and talk like
what they were looking for
hide her meds in pockets in the mouth

she got out
never went back to that place
never went back to mom and dad either
they tried to work on her with phone calls
but their cries were static in the line

Wow. To live through a long nightmare like that... Makes me realize I don't give enough thanks for what I have, and have had.

Is "dk" "don't know" ?

a few people that have been in and out of mental hospitals: autistic children having break downs: people in various programs having a psychological break
Then the pills
The real good drugs and anti/ depression meloncoly relationships
With people that faded out when she wasn’t any fun anymore
Foster care: group homes- mental health centers
Sometimes shrinks get stabbed and die
I dunno why so MANY people have had to have this same experience who invented nut houses?
Sanitarium
Whatever
If someone loses their mind- they get “ nami-“:!;- truth be told
Got be way tougher than you think when you have sensitivity beyond text book information
Could end up a lab experiment

dk are initials for this person ( friend of mine)...it was common at one time to subject patients to horrific treatment. often because they were simply "different"

Joe Kennedy had his daughter Rosemary lobotomized at 23 years old....she spent the rest of her life in an institution...she lived to be 86...there has been much written about whether she had mental illness or just wasn't performing as well as her siblings...Joe and Rose never visited her...that tells you something right there....

I worked for this place in Portland that there was one child that grew up in a cage
His parents went to prison
Of which I am grateful that they did
- sage- had neurological damage
He pionted and made an effort to speak
It was often unclear what he wanted

I got real depressed working there
Found out that 75% of all foster children were on medication
I had to leave
A recurrent theme in my career choices
I never trust a hierarchical institutions
