I'm most alive in the moment
when I breathe like the elm and juniper
slowly.... deeply...when I inhale the sky and sun
feel the moods of the moon, when
I sink below the waves to get to the bottom of things
get tangled in the amorphous weeds of truth
that keep us safe in the brine of lifetimes
from shore to shore
I paint my mask flat black 'cause the cuda's
like silver...i swim with the devil rays misnamed
'cause why should a gentle majestic creature
take the name of satan, I watch for the moray eels
their teeth like razors, their jaws like bear traps
and if you are present you'll be just fine, but if you
snooze you will lose any chance to see the coral
the psychedelic fish with colors of dreams
so I keep the peeps open , shake my fins, pull
the ocean into by body, look for darwin, hum a tune
inside me....somewhere in the voids there is peace
of mind...my hands cup the salt for a brief second
