passion is a lit match
tossed recklessly on a pile
of dry emotions, an endless

in the kudzu of a tangled mind,
that circadian rhythm, needed
to get up each morning, challenge
the day with alacrity
oh sure we have our lulls, our cyclical
loss of chi, the lazy chakras, but
if we can just hear that one song
at the right time, "C'mon Baby
Light My Fire", at that perfect second
for intervention...we are good again
for another round in the ring
with canvas floors and ropes that spring
you back into the fight when reality
lands a good one 'cross the jaw
and you hear that overture, that
rock opera. "That Deaf, Dumb, and Blind
Kid, Sure Plays a Mean PinBall....."

soundtracks of the mind - the call to arms - to rouse the battle-weary, to summon the ferocity needed for another charge, to take up arms against a sea of troubles - to inspire & energize - we're each wired a little differently, tuned to a different wavelength - Lalo Schifrin's theme from "Enter the Dragon", with its dissonances, minor chords, & French horns... the coda of Miles Davis' "Spanish Key", evoking in me the image of a gleaming, black warrior jogging across the savannah... John McLaughlin's savage guitar solo at the end of "Right Off".... it all works, man. If it gets under your skin and drives you back to your feet, it's done its job......
