Rumi came to me in a dream
told me man emerged from
the ocean
of the soul
and that earth is not
the final resting place for a bird of the sea
that comforted me
especially understanding
that love was known to be eternal
seven centuries ago
it has always been
pure energy
generated in the ebbing
and flowing of the undulating tides
and bones and skin
are far more fragile
and far less immortal
than connections born
in the melding hearts of two
and even a slob like me
could write a love peom
if he can grasp
the origins of existence
see the beauty of the gray-black waterspouts
siphoning life
out there on the horizon
in the unremitting cosmic routine
in the ceaseless agitation
of the tornadic spirits
always on the move
in search of their one and only
on the move
on the move
