The hummingbird has a mate
They visit together now
Drink that sugar stuff that’s red
The desert garden was not so successful I got like 6 zucchini
The soil
I bought three twenty five bags of soil
And dumped it around the marigolds
Refusing to bud or bloom
So I made them a bucket full of miracle grow
I will make them bloom
Wait and see
Most people would have done it the other way around

life is like a garden
you gotta nurture it a little
give it some nutrients and conversation
or you ain't gonna find that significant other
that hummingbird

I started to say” that I believe I have used up my fun tickets- the way my life is now—I cannot - just fly off -
I am deeply involved with my family— I spent many years - enjoying the hummming sound of my wings-
Now- I think maybe I’m going to be just ok- feeding the birds behinds a fancy assisted living place-
I hear it has the best food in the valley
I’m going to learn to make enchiladas
And speak Spanish
Wear goofy floral housedresses
Paint
Tell stories
Listen to the children play

the simple things
end up being the important things
but youth throws you off
has you chasing dragons and unicorns
cheap thrills and adrenaline rushes.
the beauty of older age is that your eyesight
gets better...oh sure you may need to wear glasses
but that's not the eyesight I'm talking about
there is so much beauty all around us
profound....yet simple
