poof....she's back

she came like an apparition
from a distant coast, a distant decade
this fading memory that refused
to extinguish itself and had always burned
on low heat like a bank of coals in the wood-stove
this eternal flame of my own desire and ineptitude

had plenty of chances to speak my mind
to talk boldly about the colors and strokes of love
but I was sheepish with a twist of chicken,
well let's just say for the record i was some kind of farm animal
when it came to my declaration of feelings, but I kept
opening this photo album for fifty years and staring

then one day I see her name on a writer friend's FB page
I had no idea they knew each other....I came to know him later
in life and so I sez to mu-self, what the hell...i send a friend request
no answer.....a few weeks went by....I said, oh well
and then there it was.....a message from the unimaginably distant past
and poof.....she was back
