A Poem That Is A Lot Of Inert Gas

Post by theirishsea » January 14th, 2019, 1:10 am

don't say anything
I'm writing a monologue
it is like the electrons of neon
my excuse for a poem doesn't interact
a lot of energy combining with nothing
and so
I write like a landfill
the words trucked in daily
I think like National Inquirer
big boobed women with tight sweaters fill my mind
that dance to 50's rock n roll
tight skirts
or those bobbysoxer twirling skirts

flying saucers wobble through my skies
they drip coffee
too much sugar
and I'm chewing spearmint gum
just like Pete Carroll of the Seattle Seahawks

if there was history I'd be cutting out
individual words from the newspaper
putting together a ransom note
i'M NOT GIVING UP DEMOCRATIC IDEALS
BUY ME OFF
or I'll just whistle
some semblance of the Star-Bangled Banner
write iconoclastic poetry
read Hunter S. Thompson again
think like a 19th century New Englander
Henry David or Ralph Waldo
though I'm really Nat Hawthorne
and that is the truth
I'm revving up cars for the Daytona 500
I'm riding a 1930's train going west
I'm looking for Charlie Chan and hiring him
to unmask the Crimson Ghost
the 12 part serial was too long
and I'm still scared
but I have a gun
but it is no match for a villainous mind
or a Facebook algorithm
I'm just writing whatever comes to mind
I'll get an advertisement matching my latest thoughts
tomorrow they will be selling me
bubble mix
but I really want champagne to celebrate
that I know their game
I ain't buying nothing
The Irish Sea Is Always In Turmoil, Even When Calm.

Ah the postmodern pandora's jar, the ever steeper stacks of stuff, the logarithmic algorithmic big boom-a-go-go. Can ya feel it all closin' in?...

Nice.
