thieves in the night

Post by saw » February 22nd, 2019, 10:33 am

a thief in the night
stole the music as I lay sleeping
bore into my inner ear

irreparable damage
took the high frequencies
leaving cowbells and chimes,

a little kid banging on a toy piano

i call it the Schroeder Nightmare
the doc calls it sudden sensorineural
hearing loss

but there is more than just loss of hearing
there is distortion and tinnitus and hyperacusis
fancy names for getting fucked in the ear

maybe i'll get a super power now
maybe I'll become a savant at telling awful jokes
or learn how to tune out pompous assholes

in exchange for my cooperation in this matter
a fair exchange, tit for tat, quid pro quo
I'll scratch your back, if you scratch my ear

those thieves in the night are clever
give you no warning
slip in.....slip out
If you do not change your direction
you may end up where you are heading

Sorry to read your problem. But you sure can hear your words when you write... damn good poem, Steve.

Sorry to read this. Time is the ultimate thief - the ultimate repo man..... All the best to you.

🙁 so sorry this happened, Steve... maybe the hearing will just as suddenly return ... is there anything they do to treat it? Hugs

thanx y'all...not sure there is anything available for me....been doing a lot of reading...it's a tremendous loss...can't play my bass...can't listen to music at all...I've been twice to an ENT...next stop is an audiologist....the hearing loss has been documented by two hearing tests in a soundproof room...because I have the tinnitus, hyperacusis and distortion it gets far more complicated....don't believe at the moment I'm a candidate for hearing aids, but it's too soon to tell....there are medications, sound therapy, and cochlear implants that work for a small percentage of the population...
I also realized I can no longer sing...my voice is distorted and sometimes I hear sounds harmonically ...like in two octaves,,,it's weird...i plan to record my voice and see if that helps in any way to adjust somehow....thanx one and all for the well wishes and concerns....I'm still hiking...so that's good

walking along
minding your own business
oops says circumstance
time for a leveling up in this game
a bigger challenge
a stranger perception
find your posse
new resources
what's new will feel familiar
mission: possible

Steve... wow. Don't quite know what to say. I hope this thing backs down somehow and you'll be able to sing again. At least that..

Beautiful photo... so glad you’re still hiking!

I’m pissed off about your hearing loss. It makes me mad. You’re handling it so well. You continually awe me... you’ve gone through so much and yet you just keep on! I’m telling you, it’s inspiring

Which super-power would you go for, saw?
Doll, you may have found a place of rest but I'm still on the trail.
