the wandering mind first thing in the morning

Post by saw » February 27th, 2019, 12:46 pm

some mornings
coffee isn't enough,
you linger in the shower
til the water runs cold
and it snaps your frozen mind
from the jaws of hypothermia,
you look at the clock
but the hands refuse to wave at you
despite their familiarity, eye contact
dissolves into puddles of blue
the master of torment has entered the room
you see his outline in the steamy mirror
you open the medicine cabinet
to get a better look, but all you see
is a ragged old toothbrush
and a bottle of painkillers,
so you look in all the corners
think back to a time
when hide-n-seek was fun
when it was thrilling
to not know so much, then
I think of Yogi Berra
"When you come to a fork in the road,
take it.".....but I'm not satisfied
because I really hate the Yankees,
then I think of Chance
the Gardener in Being There
when the president asks him
" do you think we can stimulate growth
through temporary incentives ?"
and Peter Sellers replies,
"As long as the roots are not severed"
and suddenly I feel much better.
If you do not change your direction
you may end up where you are heading

Doll, you may have found a place of rest but I'm still on the trail.
