No More Politics!

Don't give a shit about politics.
Religion is where it's at, but not
some religion stained by politics.
No! I mean a religion of no religion,
the kind Jesus was thinking about;
no left-right-left, marching as to war.
No more bombing to get more riches.
No more billions trying to buy our brains.
No more I say! No more! Running, running,
always running around like headless chickens,
after more, more! more shit and more POWER!
running for reelection from the second you get in.
No more of the greatness of greed and hate.
No more of the Great Pander and Plunder.
It's done. We're shutting it down.

I think he would vote for Totenkoph.
Whatever happened to him.?

give me that old time religion that Nietzsche wrote about
all about tribes and family and friends for me
Jesus is just alright with me, he towers over the men of the Old Testament.

No way Totenkopf, are you kidding me?
Though he was smart and necessarily nasty.
A Chess master. What is it about chess?

He seemed to be a troll. Hell I'm a troll depending on what you believe, but none of that has to do with the state of politics, which seems almost beyond repair.

I only mentioned him because you also mentioned no more religion.
. He was a theologian. or so he seemed to me. So religion has nothing to do with the state of our politics? Religion has plenty to do with it.

beyond repair
beyond despair

sorry I am wandering because I don't know what you are saying about no more religion no more politics, it seems vague but interesting —someone back in the sixties commenting on Steven Hawkins' work.

Yeah, I'm kinda all over the map there. Mainly the religion (and "holy wars") of this never-ending Talking Head- generated Left Versus Right (Donkey Versus Elephant) bullshit... as WE ALL get plundered (and incited)-- both "Left" and "Right" dittoheads across this great land. It's time to boycott that bastard! excuse my French. Just say NO. Loudly. (And even that rings hollow-- as if we could actually get a majority to snap out of their collective stupor and vote against BOTH major parties, even though that's what is badly needed.) People, the system is broken, okay? And don't get so twisted and wound up in its bullshit...

UNIMPRESSED with PELOSI. WITH THE TRUMP MOB. WITH HILLARY (seriously?) WITH "LET'S JUST DRONE BOMB 'EM" OBAMA. WITH THE MEGAMONEY PERPETUAL RUNNING FOR OFFICE FROM THE SECOND YOU GET IN... No, just say NO!

The origin of the word “politics” comes from Greek, and means “affairs of the city".

To "do away" with politics is a desirable goal, "it ain't gonna happen" is the fact. As long as there are people who gather into a neighborhood, a town, a city, a state or nation there will forever be "politics" and those who would love to be a part of it.

Of course, you know this as well as any reader knows it. That said, we needn't take part in politics and as good as that sometime sounds, the people will speak up and speak out for that which they approve of or disapprove of... every time. Hence politics remains part and parcel of an society, including a religious society. Even "saying no!" is a political action.

yawn... back to sleep now. we all need at times a retreat from people.

Perhaps "politics" wasn't the right word. Maybe "never-ending toxic sludge fight" would have been a better choice of words...

It's dead. There is no representative government. Of the people. Maybe there never was.

Then again, if you believe in a sellout to corporate interests (in our best interests), then maybe this is the best "representative government" we could hope for! After all, corporations are just people, right?

ps, did any of you happen to catch a recent article on the Net about how Homeland Security could use Eminent Domain to seize private land along the border for The Wall? (Because it's an Emergency of course...)

How can people remember crap like that? And why? He was an internet troll and I banned him over 10 years ago! Yeah over 10 years is a long long time ago!

I like your poem, Mark.

How many screen names do you have, Jack? Why not just use one.

Thanks Doreen. I think Steve nailed it. "Detox"... Reminded me of this thread. If I had to pick one word to describe what's going on with our "leaders" (and broadcasters)-- I mean, beside the usual suspects like "corrupt," or "dishonest"-- it would be TOXIC ... I find it hard to believe what's happening, actually.

Me too. It’s almost impossible to believe these people are still in power. I’ve lost a lot of faith in our system. I get depressed a lot. I’m thinking maybe I should stop paying attention to protect my mental health.

Detox!

Wealth=Power=Wealth. There's an article in this month's Scientific American on the uneven distribution of WealthPower in this country. Like reverse osmosis, the remaining wealth is flowing to those who already have it. And because they're in a position to buy whatever they want, they buy whatever they want - which is Power. They call the shots, and the shots they call - mirabile dictu - direct more WealthPower their way. It's a runaway reaction, but it can't last forever. The French aristocracy learned this in the 18th century, and the Russian royalty learned it in 1917. Our time is coming. Maybe I'm too old to be this naive, but I still believe in the moral authority of We the People.

The Enduring Power of Anticapitalism in American Politics
From Debs to Sanders to Ocasio-Cortez, an ideal persists.
Jamelle Bouie
By Jamelle Bouie
Opinion columnist

Debs was best known for his thundering attacks on industrial capitalism. A tireless campaigner, he crisscrossed the country denouncing the inhumane conditions of factory labor and berating the capitalist class for its destructive obsession with profit. “In the wage system you and your children, and your children’s children, if capitalism shall prevail until they are born, are condemned to slavery and there is no possible hope unless by throwing over the capitalists and voting for socialism,” Debs declared in a speech delivered at an Independence Day celebration in Chicago in 1901.

But Debs didn’t just condemn his class enemies. He also called on his audiences to imagine a better world — to realize the democratic and egalitarian promise of the American Revolution through collective action. “We live in the most favored land beneath the unbending sky,” he said in a speech in 1900. “We have all the raw materials and the most marvelous machinery, millions of eager inhabitants seeking employment. Nothing is so easily produced as wealth, and no man should suffer for the need of it.” Debs’s appeal, noted the historian Nick Salvatore in his 1982 biography, “Eugene V. Debs: Citizen and Socialist,” was “frequently described by contemporaries as evangelical, and transcended at that moment factional disagreements and led each in the audience to glimpse a different social order.”

Or, as one self-described “hard-bitten socialist” said to the journalist Heywood Broun at the time: “That old man with the burning eyes actually believes that there can be such a thing as the brotherhood of man. And that’s not the funniest part of it. As long as he’s around, I believe it myself.”
evangelical and transcended isn.t that a pretty thought 8)
