irreconcilable differences

Post by saw » June 19th, 2019, 12:09 pm

Key West 1971
did not re-up in the Navy
workin' construction, it's February
strange chill was in the air
most houses do not even have central heat
so I head home at lunch time
to grab the only long sleeve shirt I own
red and black plaid, I rode my bike
had it retro-fitted with a sheathe
for my four foot level, a big wire basket
for the rest of the tools I needed
Floyd looked after my stuff
eating his peanut butter and jelly
on a pile of 2 by 6's

the bedroom door was closed
which gave me a little warning signal
I gently pushed open that door,
there was my best friend fucking my wife
their faces remain priceless to this day
as if they were the stars in a B horror movie
I said, Please don't get up, I've just come
for something warm
I kicked her out that night, got a quick
no-fault Florida divorce in Miami
my uncle knew an attorney he worked with
so simple
irreconcilable differences

truth is
i felt a greater loss losing my best friend
just being honest here
our marriage had some rough edges
but it was so weird
losing a wife and a best friend
in one fell swoop
it was like they died suddenly in a tragic accident
and well, I guess they did
If you do not change your direction
you may end up where you are heading

Betrayal hurts - this must have been awful. I've never been cuckolded (that I'm aware of, anyway), but I've overheard things said about me I was not meant to hear. The remarks themselves didn't sting as much as who they were coming from. And there were things said directly to me during the counseling sessions preceding my divorce that left marks that took a long time to heal.

Yeah, betrayal not only hurts, it sucks. So sorry, man.

What a story.

Reminded me of when I found the girl hiding in the closet. I was so happy I didn't catch them in the act. I wouldn't have handled it nearly as well as you did. I didn't handle her hiding in the closet well at all. :)

I can't imagine what it would have been like if she was my friend. I didn't know her, thank goodness. That must have been horrible to experience that, Steve. So sorry.

Thanks for sharing the story. Thank God we move on.

Please don't get up.
Please, don't give me a thought
I'm already out of here.

Your brain knew before your heart had a chance to digest.
Elegant exit.

Very effective poem----that is lame saying that because a lot of emotion in the writing of that poem, and the memory. Very effective description of the scene. Agree about the ending---effective.

I'll have to look for any parts 3 & 4 or more that follow.
