John Wayne once argued with Clint Eastwood

Post by mnaz » June 22nd, 2019, 2:03 am

Eastwood made High Plains Drifter.
John Wayne complained because
it was too negative, and you can't
paint the West so bad just three
years past bombing Cambodia.
It didnt seem to matter where
bombs fell in those times.
The West would be won.

The Duke must have turned over in his grave
when Clint made The Unforgiven...
man, that was down and dirty
like it probably was....slashing a prostitutes face up
for laughing at a john's little dick
and shooting a man dead while he was taking a crap
in the outhouse...

Wayne, ( Marion Morrison by birth ) was both racist and homophobic
and hardly the best judge of how things should be, not to mention
he was a red-baiter , and part of his "posse" included Walt Disney and Ronald Reagan
he was an intolerant hawk and even though the Marlboro Man is dead and gone
Gary Sinise and Kelsey Grammer, among others have taken up his cause
that right wing element has always existed in Hollywood in pockets here and there
If you do not change your direction
you may end up where you are heading

Damn! I can't say I expected anything like this, but there was "something" about Ol' John in his later flicks that I found to be shit. Whether he was always redneck I never saw until his crap with 'Nam movies and onward... had he changed? Quien sabe?

Thx for the comments, SAW.

The "winning of the West," and then onto the rest of the WORLD (still in progress). Lotta skeletons in those closets. Eastwood & Morrison. Two iconic, immense talents, especially Eastwood. Simply no choice but to respect and marvel at their towering achievements in their chosen arts. Obviously they dwarf anything I'll ever come up with. And they can both take a flying leap as well... I will say that Hondo was a movie showing at least some depth/complexity w.r.t the "Indian Wars" of the late 1800s, and not completely one dimensional. Surprised me a little. But wtf do I know...
