The Crew

Framing crew banging away
2 x 4, 2x 6, 2 x 8
Plywood & aspenite
LVL & TJI
The house is rising
A waking scream from a dismayed Blue Jay

Hammers & saws
Compressors & guns
Levels & squares
String lines & hard hats on
Neighbour’s tree casts early morning shadow
Shiny Black Crow cries it’s cackling caws

28 degrees they say tomorrow
Summer in April
No showers to rhyme
Not a cloud in the blue eternity
Bending backs, groaning sorrow

Sun glaring
Plywood floor reflects
Wood grains in rivers
Heat in waves rising

Old treed neighbourhood
Old moneyed home
Knocking down & raising a new one
Crocuses in bloom
A new nest for the Robin’s brood

Limestone façade & cedar roof
Maples budding in the blue spring dome
The blue prints’ the carpenters proof

Pristine lawn
Cobbled drives
Steel beams delivered with a thump
Raising dust from the parched earth
Just one hour past dawn

It’s work a day
As it begins
Busy drones gather and scurry
Bang and whirr
Collect your pay

just doing their jobs...

knock down the old to build something new...we humans are a trip.

Great read Kurt. You captured the moment for me and the birds.
