After Defeat By A Sonnet's Form

After A Defeat By A Sonnet’s Form

Stymied by words
That don’t fit in the puzzle of form
Can’t make them march in step
The troop motley
Some wear slippers
Some one boot
Some have nice shoes but can’t keep in step
And there are words to this song
That this one and that one mumble
And there are rhymes but they buzz like flies
And the wings don’t land
Precisely
Concisely
The device doesn’t do its wing’ed thing
It’s a joke
But the song is about a bloke
Who lost his gal
You’re right she left
You’re right she left
And she marches over the hill
Down the dale
Leaving no trail
Everything’s to no avail
The formlessness of your grief
Trite as hell
But well….it’s a theme
A dream that
Just sits at the crossroads
Like a tired platoon
No orders
No sergeant
He’s drunk and still in town
And he’s not too bright
He can only rhyme bright with light or night
Just a slight ability
And here we are
the words grimy, dusty, rusty
Flaking with rhyme
Like rough dandruff
Scruffy
No wonder the romance didn’t work
Jerk
You’re right she left
You’re right she left
Skip a beat
Move those feet
Get in step
Eyes right eyes left
You’re sad bereft
Get in line
Align yourself
Poeticize
The army’s truth
You ain’t got no roof
Goof
You’re just a pair
Walking on air
And the war for the poem’s
Just
Begun
Sing it
You’re right she’s left
You’re right she’s left
The Irish Sea Is Always In Turmoil, Even When Calm.
