mind's eye

I've spent a lot of time in the woods
so I understand what Emerson meant
when he penned, " Nature always wears
the colors of the spirit"
yes, it is our mind that dresses her
in the morning, changes her outfit
in the late afternoon, what I can see
you cannot, which has nothing to do
with out IQ's, and everything to do
with our experiences that led us to look
at this same Norway Maple on the same day
and see two different trees, and so it is....
once again, our perceptions are our realities
good, bad, or indifferent................
I lose my ego in the woods, become
the size of a black and yellow striped bumble bee
and it feels so good to flit about the massive oaks
breathing rarefied air, flinging my stresses
from my shoulders to the ground with a shrug
to disappear forever in the trodden soil
where a legion of boots pound them into dust
so I understand what Emerson meant
