we make movies
write poems,
look at the moon
in bloody October
through chilled air

we cry like wolves
laugh like hyenas
play like otters
dance like insects
across a pond

we assume
mother earth
will always
be here for us
we make movies

we assume
with false humility
that we are too small
to harm beloved Gaia
we underestimate
the destructive powers
that we have created
and unleashed
in our unceasing quest
for el dorado
we fail to see her falter
we refuse to acknowledge her frailty
we hope with blind fervor
that she will always be here for us
selfish children that we are
we truly care
only for ourselves

She'll be here,
one way or another.
But will we? And how?
