How the Super-Rich Will Ride Out the Apocalypse

I read something today, about
where the Super-Rich will ride out
the Apocalypse.

My eyelids flutter at the thought
of mounting modern complexity;
who can get it up, who maintains.

Everything is hitting all at once.
Old myths and the conquest of billions.
News Channels are melting down.

The Super-Rich will ride it out in bunkers.
When they emerge into the haze,
their markets will be extinct.

I also read something about the apocalypse
as I remember there was this hollowed-out mountain at a resort in West Virginia that was created after WW2

Not the first time I've come across this sorta article while surfing the "news" on my lunch break. Yeah, it's a "click bait" thing I guess, but also a bit of a reveal in a culture obsessed with material wealth. Maybe "the Apocalypse" is nuclear; maybe not (economics itself is weaponized). The rise of the 1 percent is truly stunning in recent years/decades. Of course, if it got too far out of balance in that direction we could always just vote them out, right? Oh wait, I forgot. Our "elections." Maybe not.

They'll ride it out on some yacht with reinforced, bomb-resistant walls I'm thinking. Unfortunate and inconvenient, but the markets always rebound above the smoke..

I tire of those super-rich strangling the economies of the world. Bastards already have too fucking much that their wealth is only supporting their favorite bank that will give them a higher rate. Ridiculous! It's the 20stC Monopoly Game that sold out America teaching each other to WIN! the game leaving the others flat broke.

Yes, I played that game many a time for many years until one game it all became an exhausting exercise in "WINNING" a bunch of cheap paper. If that's the best we can do as a civilization, we should wipe the board clean, i.e. return the Earth to what it used to be 1,000 years ago.

They're the Stupid Rich if you ask me. Who wants a destroyed world? They ride it out and emerge into the rubble? Absolutely stupid. Yeah, their markets will be extinct. Everything will. What kind of idiots are they?

What kind of idiots are they?
Various types. "Supply-siders" in general. "Laissez faire" Capitalists with a capital 'C.' Worshipers of Randian, self-interested economics, pushed to their max. Even Gordon Gekko "junk bond swindler" types who-- since Reagan especially (when was that movie? 1987?)-- haven't been shy about coming right out and declaring that "Greed is Good" ... Did I leave anyone out? Probably.

But here's the kicker, the "twist": There's always been a case to be made that the basic p.o.v. held by the types of thinkers/players above indeed has some merit -- IN THE SHORT TERM at least. "Trickle-down" economic expansionism has, at least in the short-term, given us more consumer STUFF and has "created wealth," which is great and all, if we can just pretend that the massive homeless problem somehow doesn't exist, and things like that. But I tend to see this sort of "wealth creation" as far too top-heavy to sustain itself, let alone the planet...

Maybe I'm just too damn pessimistic about life. I don't know...
