we needn't fear the abyss
did you really believe that precious gems
would be scattered along the ground
like acorns for you to gather up
that any old wandering fool
could amass all he needs for the winter
by taking a little stroll across the yard
No...you must descend the sheer walls
tear your fingers on razorback crags
feel the life-on-fire burn in your calves
the twisting torque of mangled deltoids
you must risk exposure
contentment is hard work
a determined trek into the belly of the voracious canyon
alone
afterward you may be ready to love
afterward.... you may be ready .....to Be..... loved

Contentment and gems. Can't always find them in the back yard ('tho a lot can be found there), so you go a little farther sometimes. I know the feeling.
