Feachers

Post by mnaz » January 7th, 2020, 5:41 pm

(Or: Silly Poem no. 692)
(w/ thanks to The Presidents of the United States of America)

Down-town in steely city,
I'm gonna eat a lotta feachers.
Down-town in concrete city,
gonna eat me a lotta feachers.

Millions of feachers for you and me.
Millions of feachers, but not for free.

Feachers come from the Factory.
They can make dreams come true.
You can find your identity,
only if they sell it to you.

Millions of feachers for you and me.
Millions of feachers, but not for free.

............ Oh, and here's the video..

If you do not change your direction
you may end up where you are heading

Yeah, i remember that one... thanks. We also had one called "H. Salt Esq." Sounded very British to me, but they were actually a Cali operation...

movin' to the city,
gonna need a lot of features.
i'll suck up the city,
gonna eat me a lotta features.

features come from big vans.
they were put there by the man
from a sweatshop over-seeeaas.
If I had my needy way,
i'd eat features ev'ry day
and buy my i-dent-i-tee.

movin' to the city,
gonna...

maybe that's a little closer...

Thanks Arcadia. This is one of those weird moments when a lyric I heard a LONG time ago popped into my head-- for no reason at all ... "Millions of peaches, peaches for me. Millions of peaches, peaches for free..." I didn't know who did the song-- I knew nothing about this band; I had to look them up. I'd heard this song in the background somewhere, 25 years ago when it came out, and suddenly, there it was, playing in my brain ...

I've had advertising jingles from 50-60 years ago pop in unbidden....

- "You get a lot to like/with a Marlboro:/Filter, flavor, pack or box!"
- "Wow! I saw Color TV!"
- "Tour the USA/in your Chevrolet!"
- "Choc-Full-of-Nuts is that heavenly coffee..."

...resistance is futile....
.
"Falsehood flies, the Truth comes limping after it." - Jonathan Swift, ca. 1710

No kidding. Even from long-defunct stuff ... "You can trust your car, to the man who wears the star, the big, bright Texaco star!"... Shit, there it is again! Don't know why that little ditty just came to me. I found a copy of LIFE Magazine in the basement, the Apollo 11 moon landing edition. I bet I could find a lot of 50-year old ad slogans in that one...
