1984 wasn't really dystopian, but......

kept thinkin' about Dr. John
his entourage of scantily clothed dancing girls
flippin' their sequenced boas as they pranced
onto the stage, " I was in the right place, must have been the wrong time."

hitchhiking up to Tampa from Key West was about as easy as lifting a thumb
to the sky, and I mean Rare Earth was there and War, so was Leon Russel
and Quicksilver Messenger Service.... Ike and fucking Tina Turner !

so why do I always think so much about Dr. John, my suspicion is voodoo
I think he brought some black magic with him from New Orleans, and that shit
was powerful mojo that you could catch, as in, contract like the Rockin' Pneumonia

or that Boogie Woogie Flu, and we all know there ain't no inoculation for those things
You buy your ticket, find your seat that you never sit in, and throw caution
to this old beat-up piano that's vibrating like a dirty tuning fork, to this gravely voice

that can penetrate pores and other orifices, I mean, I thought doctors were supposed
to cure people, not deliberately get you addicted, though music can work like dope at times
especially under a creole moon

Damn! Memories... sweet, sweet memories... thanks to MUSIC... the maker of memories with a tap of the feet

I had my thrills, not on Blue Berry Hill, but , as we used to say, "the City"
yes, San Francisco, USA, circa 1967 when the world was generously high,
music was fucking amazing and the pot was (as you well know at concerts)
shared with one and all while the music remade our world the finest it could get.

Thanks for the great inspiration, amigo! Well done!

"old beat-up piano that's vibrating like dirty tuning fork..." Love that! What a lineup, my gawd... those sort of moments seem to be vanishing, nearly extinct under the creeping fascist crush of silicon (probably just 'cause I'm heading toward grumpy-old-man-ness)...

whoa yeah Cecil, The Summer of Love...you were at ground zero...i came through in '75, not the epicenter but still caught Hot Tuna for free in the park....great times....and the music still holds up....and the music was the glue for social upheaval , the war movement ( which we need again with all these crazy fucks rattling their sabers ).....There will never again be the super groupings of relevant musicians gathering to play for a nominal fee
or in some cases For Free !....

and mnazzy, yes the corporate grip has ruined so much...it's easy to be grumpy about it....just watched a great doc on Linda Ronstadt, with terrific insight to the way things used to be...artists had a lot of leeway....especially Ronstadt....her instincts proved to be right-on, every time she pitched a new idea...Now, they would poo poo it at first, but ultimately she would win out, and the records would prove them wrong...today, you'd never get the chance....not to mention the business has changed dramatically with the advent of digital music....artists can promote themselves now....don't need a record label....

When i lived in the Keys, every Friday when I got my check I'd head for the record store where I had befriended a very nice young woman who worked there, and I'd sit on a stool for hours with headphones on listening to the latest stuff....she would allow me to experiment with new groups by tearing the plastic off of any LP I wanted to try ( I ...was....a good customer )...but she was still very Nice and I could listen with no obligation to buy...I'd say I did buy about 95 % of what I tried......

dem wuz the daze

I feel very fortunate to have come of age with all that great music to inspire me
