Earth is not an Infinite Reservoir of Profit

Post by mnaz » April 4th, 2020, 2:06 am

Grew up with ideas of profit
seared in Bible consciousness.
Thousand year wars same as now.

Then a Religion of Profit kicked in.
It didn't matter who won, the main
thing is: win. Nothing else matters.

Then it turned into a slugfest,
squabbling over earth while Earth
had no intention of going quietly.

And I'd like to thank Google earth for helping me understand the problem. Just click up a few hundred thousand feet or many miles if you're impatient, and you see the curvature...

as if I walked through a door into another world that was all new to me. Don't you hate it when you keep having the same epiphanies over and over

I am using a lot of  these days, being ...verging on the edge of hysteria.

if not for poetry

That was us, all together. In space looking back. We say we know space, but now we're just trying to sell it to the highest bidder.

I was 18, home for the holidays during my 1st year at UNH. Christmas Eve - we'd just gotten home from midnight Mass, and I switched on the TV to behold the surface of the moon from 70 miles up. And when they started reading from Genesis... it was as close to a religious experience as I'll ever get.
