time bends at the waist
of our limited existence

that stretch between birth
and expiration, when we
transition from erect ape
to staring at our curling toes

that slow arc of the spine
like withering stalks of corn
at the end of of life's summer

but if we are clever and lucky
we can hone the mind's edge
with poetry that cuts the doldrums,
bisects the acceleration with grace

at times.....and with judo chops at others
or wrestling matches in the mud
with four hundred pound sumo's
in shitty moods, it's all just a delirious crap shoot

we roll them dice and pray we don't see
two snake eyes looking back in our face
that is too close for comfort, and we hope
the lug nuts on our chariot aren't stripped
from clenched jaws of worry....because
those stallions are racing toward the cliff
hellbent for leather straight-jackets

So take your vitamins and do that daily crossword
and hope your genes aren't too wimpy
and can weather that hurricane comin' up the coast
of your breathing and mobility....
and somehow you will loft like a feather
onto a pile of pillows on the neon-mango-beach
fluffed and ready for climax
hey..use your imagination, Think Big !
