fireflies, absinthe, and heaven

fireflies of frenzy
thoughts of all the summers
when the backyards were alive
and the fairy absinthe tasted like heaven talking
and the thoughts had wings
and the tiny flying lights sparkled
to show their appreciation for the space we shared
we were both trying to do our best
despite our limitations

when thoughts seemed to have wings and
sparkle for awhile in shared space.

Here on the west coast
No fireflies
But every fairy infested tale
Is full of little twinkling fireflies

We have lots of crops growing
Even artichokes
No fireflies
Scorpions and snakes
Huge cock roaches

I knew a guy in foster care
Long time ago
He and his buddies
Raced them
Poverty makes you crazy or creative
I suppose it is a choice
May the fireflies inspire you
