ode to George Floyd

Post by saw » June 14th, 2020, 9:20 am

what if policemen carried saxophones
and bullets were affixed to city murals
that created a flock of doves
that would be the right caliber
for healing the wounds of brutality run amok

and what if sheriffs had posse's of flower girls
and rode on parade floats of goodwill, tossing love-beads
and armies were musical revues with performance artists to quell
the inner beasts of men , the ogres of need, like hunger.....
and what if justice and equality were realized by all the colors of skin

and what if racism was ancient history, and intolerance
was a forgotten paradigm decaying in a boneyard of bad ideas
just crazy talk ?.....wanderlust pie ? .... a bowl of cherries
with whipped cream dripping down from the table of fantasy desserts ?
........or has the Chambers Brothers' words come full circle........

to be resurrected for an unsuspecting martyr
a man for this exact Time

"Time Has Come Today"........( Time ! ) .......

Time will tell....................( Time ! )........

....................................( Time ! )

I don't know jack shit about poetry but I think dino would like this one a lot. I do too.

Lyrics
Down the road a ways I have heard say a new day's comin' on
Where the woman folks are friendly and the law leaves you alone.
Well I'll believe it when I see it but I haven't seen it yet.
Don't mind me just keep on talkin' I am just looking for my hat.
Ain't no God in Mexico
Ain't no way to understand
old waylon

Wouldn't that be a great response
to the great gift we've been given?
