Nuevo Laredo
Wife’s bodhisattva halo embraces the nativity
of a Mesoamerican Madonna holding her baby
in a circle of love.
Beatified in luminescence
Ascetic body lost to hunger
Golden daughter of creation whose son shines
Like the gold-leafed pages
In her book of divine love
His nursery rhyme eyes
Are a shanty-town of tears
Mother’s milk-less breasts grieve
In prophetic yearning for son’s rebirth
My beloved’s heartbeats are a pulsar
As her soul synchronizes
With the celestial harmony
Of maternal love eternal
Blue sky clarity crystallizes
The buffalo nickel wife carries for luck
Becomes Mama’s thousand dollar gift
She kisses their earthen faces
Under the light of a thousand suns

Re: Nuevo Laredo
A warm, gentle reflection illuminates
the picture you've painted in colors
... colors of the southwestern desert
where life relies of the beauty of love
to win out over the sparseness of life
struggling to survive the summer's heat,
where the necessity of "la sombra" silently
allows a fresh breeze to cool the dripping
brow from working the dry soil in hopes
that the least of bean and chili peppers
will bear enough fruit to feed hungry mouths
crying out for nourishment...
(gracias for your fine imaginative words, amigo)

mtmynd, thank you for that gorgeously poetic reflection of what my poem brought to your mind. One of the most sublime replies to my poetry. More than a reply a spiritually resonate conversation with my words. Beautiful.

Eloquent
Beautiful
Words together
Makes the desert more pleasant
Road runners and tumbleweed
The phone rings

reason is over rated, as is logic and common sense-i much prefer the passions of a crazy old woman, cats and dogs and jungle foliage- tropic rain-and a defined sense of who brings the stars up at night and the sun up in the morning---
