happy enough

Post by saw » August 8th, 2020, 11:14 am

hastening billows
gray off white
canvas baby blue
porch flowers
tempt sleepy eyes
look deeper
context, meaning
importance
the sun withholds
grandeur
takes its time
to roll out of cosmic bed
I sip the Colombian
I used to smoke
ritualistically
take a few photos
read the morning paper
The Baltimore Sun
no longer shines
withers away
fallen leaves of glory
my favorite part
the two crossword puzzles
the sports page is meaningless
the land of covid rules
stories of once was
might be again one day
The Orioles are running around
to canned applause and empty seats
I rock on the porch
imagine the future
my broken rib cage aches less
my heart seems happy enough
If you do not change your direction
you may end up where you are heading

Ahh! our times
how they spin
in accordance to
the masterful Covid
taken over the world
we once believed to
be ours to do with
as we pleased...

How quickly our lives
have shifted in an instant
in a mere eight months
and Covid continues
it's drama bringing death
to the unsuspecting and
ignored by those who refuse
to believe it could happen to them

It's already happened to all
if not death, the very word,
Covid19 has entered our vocabulary
it's meaning a million words long
and growing without reason we know

... without a reason we know
... without a reason we know
... or our refusal to accept
