the final days of color
loomed like a blackened wave
of frosted air, the garden
had nothing to say about it

the birds still came for breakfast
but didn't hang around to socialize
preferring the quick exit
to sunny electric cables

where they lined up like perps for the cops
and I claimed to be an eye witness
like a cub reporter with pen and notebook
that refuses to sit indoors and likes to scribble

it's the day after the election
the country is split right down the middle
hate vs. love in it's simplest form, but this
newly elected president whoever he may be

won't stop me from hiking
and he won't prevent me from painting and writing
and he won't be able to convert me to his brand
'cause I'm just like a bird

I shit

and now begins the work of removing the rubble of the last 4 years....

judges laugh
the big mouth bully is oddly silent
he doesn't care about our security
or dignity and tradition
he only cares about his giant head
nothing else enters that wasteland

the courts loom for his civilian stature

The Great Sickness is still with us. I always thought that folks in "the heartland" are too close to nature to fall for this. But honestly, I don't know if any "good" choices still exist.
