a red-tailed hawk soars above
I crane by leather neck to see the flight
but what do I really know of her
from merely seeing her underbelly

when you look into my eyes of blues
can you see the aches in my bones
can you see the trails traveled,
will my bio be quick like a darting frog tongue

so many poison pens locked and loaded in low gear
grinding out time without the impetus to be
intelligent.....will a soundbite do, given the density
of all the voices in the forest

let the axe fly....end over end over, end of story
so many miles of dirt carried on my boot bottoms
only to have fallen off at some point, returned
to the ground to be picked up again by the next intrepid hiker

toted 'round for a brief time in the grooves of meaning
the earth can only be borrowed dear explorer
so let it permeate your sole, defy the rubber treads
that block water ..yes yes...dream big....let it permeate....your sole
