I often lose track
the fine crystal fragility
life and love
suddenly smashed to the floor
without red flags
red alerts
accidentally one might say
something so intact
reliable
can turn to shards
ceramic cells strewn
and no amount of Elmer's Glue
can return the valued piece
to its original integrity
and sometimes all that is left to do
is sweep up the memories
and treasure them
and look onward to the new arrangement

placid waters can turn ugly - when the timeline bifurcates, we can't go back & take the other one instead - just trudge on to see what's around the next bend....
