waiting to see

happy writing all the time is dishonest
why be reluctant to tell the whole truth
herbal teas and kleenex are lined up on the table,
the blues have come to town like BB King in a black limo

you could say I'm black and blue... and I'd be lying
if I said they never laid a glove on me....
sitting still is the hardest thing to do when you want to move
to a conclusion, but the bite may be toxic and the muscles may say No

the two ton pen brand new from the package
full of blood and tears, ready to flow in salty streams,
so if we write when we are joyous why not write when
we are sad, when the monkey and the albatross are on our back

when the fuel is low in the eternal flame, when the poem
is sick, frail and pale, when the meat has fallen from the bone
and the carnivores are licking their lips, I suppose you'd like
to know where all of this is going, well so would I, but we'll just have to wait and see

Adversity can inspire some pretty intense writing. I've been through a couple of rough patches, and those primal screams constituted some of my best. I hope your stretch of white water isn't too long, & you come out the other side ok.

Writing - at times it's a wonderful flow straight from the heart that makes the writer ask him/herself : "Did I really write this! Hard to believe..."

Then there are those days when each and every word that comes onto your paper is a terrible joke that leaves us perplexed as to where the Muse has gone, leaving this writer pissed! confused! angry! knowing those words are bullshit! As confusing and unnecessary for anyone to take the writing seriously in any way.

You've fallen hard on no inspiration, as if we somehow deserve inspiration ever time the type strikes the paper (or monitor). We find out the hard way we are not the writer that we aspire to be... all because of the dreaded truth we must swallow, i.e.

Inspiration
promises nothing
only giving of itself
a personal invitation
to embark upon a journey
__________*___________

Yup! The journey is not a guarantee our writing will be exactly what we have been looking for. No such luck. Try again tomorrow or some other time. The Muse needs a rest from us, too.
