all before my feet ever touch the floor

enigmatic ennui creeps
like tangled vines in a forest of cerebellum
spine-tingling tales
of unrest and longing....
I wake up in a pool of muddy dreams
dog-paddling thru endogenous chemicals,
decades of gross anatomy

difficult transitions night to day
there must be a pill for this, 'cause
zombie cognition seems to be winning....
my brain is a lizard at dawn, wants to
sun itself on the window sill still in its little green PJ's
he telepathically handcuffs my limbic system

except for that one emotion
that rages for caffeine, when you break it
all down, at 5am, I'm a bearded dragon
looking for 2 cups of coffee and a clean shave
of sorts, a thing I like to call
Iguana Evolution,
losing my raggedy-ass tail

when I was a young man
my eyes would pop open
like a possessed doll
and I would spring to my feet to face the day.......
with more than seven decades of baggage
all the spring has sprung
and I wallow through a litany of competing notions

all before my feet ever touch the floor
If you do not change your direction
you may end up where you are heading

You had me at enigmatic ennui. I know the feeling of that fleeting, strange transition zone.
