like old George Thorogood said
I Drink Alone....I prefer
the dim light of solitude
and the drama-less peace
of old lovers that live far away

I'm being somewhat facetious
not about the quiet pleasures,
about the drinking and the company... I rarely
grab for the alcohol when there are fresh herbs
in the planter box

isn't it a wonderful thing
even the weeds god made, have
in many cases medicinal uses, meaning
Nothing is here without a reason
it may be true that you don't know why

at this moment

but that only means you haven't figured it out yet
that your going to need more time
for reflection, you will need
more distractions til you get there
more possibilities to consider and a comfortable chair

from the mundane to the impossible, you'll need
to allow yourself to breathe....deliberately,
you'll need to switch your brain to silent-mode
like when you go to the movie theater
vibration is okay

you'll need to open the doors and windows

we are the undisputed masters of hubris...

"Mighty Hoover Dam! Symbol of Man's
Conquest of Nature!"

conquest of Nature indeed
what bollocks
yer supposed to dance with your Mother, fools
not fuck her

Roy...you reminded me of this great book by Marc Reisner called Cadillac Desert that I read about 25 years ago.....it goes into the history I think you were suggesting.....

What I actually had in mind (and was trying to parody) were those PSAs that seemed to overrun the 1940s & 50s - "Are your teeth clean enough?" "Sally can't get a date for Saturday's dance because she doesn't polish her shoes!" They were all about conformity, and central to it all was the message that Nature was some kind of malignant force that needed to be clubbed into submission... a far cry from reality, and the reason we're where we are today.....

ah yes...Reisner talks a lot about the dams being built....these contests if you will to control nature....the bigger the dam, the bigger the conquest.....as in a contest of who has the bigger dick....and of course, some of those dams burst and wiped out whole towns....like the Johnstown Flood ie......and then there was fight over who controls the water... who Owns the water.....
