pardon my cynicism my friend, I'm just sayin'

Post by saw » October 16th, 2021, 5:20 pm

without a computer
without a phone
I'd be anonymous
largely, I wonder deeply
perchance their madness
my relatives cut off
by the Blue Ridge Mountains
no way to post a poem

Hell, posting wasn't invented yet
unless you're talking about mending fences

they were isolated man
especially when the snow fell
"Here's Johnny !"
I wonder how folks kept it together

the internet for its plethora of problems
gives people a sense of connection
to the outside world, Facebook
reminds you that you have " Friends "
and that they may "Like" what you're saying

and since you can't look into their eyes
you might actually come believe this
that they are being sincere
Hell, maybe that's enough....maybe I don't want to know
I'm just gonna keep on believing
I've got friends.....pardon my cynicism
my friend
surely you understand given our close relationship
If you do not change your direction
you may end up where you are heading

Cynicism (philosophy)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Cynicism (Ancient Greek: κυνισμός) is a school of thought of ancient Greek philosophy as practiced by the Cynics (Ancient Greek: Κυνικοί; Latin: Cynici). For the Cynics, the purpose of life is to live in virtue, in agreement with nature.

post surgery, the interwebs have been my primary connectuon to the world of people - I don't facebook or any of its offspring, but gmail, studio 8, et al have kept me in touch with other humans. I've never laid eyes on any of you - never spoken aloud to you - but I've still come to think of you as friends, someone I can open up to more frankly than some of my carbon-based acquaintances....... a perk of anonymity maybe...?

I was being a bit facetious ....Of course despite many of the seeming prerequisites for friendship, I'm come think of those still here at S8 as my friends....it was merely a contemporary definition of friendship....one Webster could never have imagined .....we would need things like the internet to create such a definition....and it speaks to evolution of language as such...but I really do wonder how my relatives kept it together.....maybe they didn't....perhaps I'm kin to stark raving lunatics

the big net in the sky has always been my connection to writers. Here on the kibbutz, English speakers are a rarity and writers I glean from the whole southern zone. Studio 8, Arcanum, Ray's site the Electrolounge, these are the forums that still have some lifeblood pumping. Good lifeblood with lots of perks.
cynicism is part of it, just agreein'

I think of Studio Eight 8 as a small circle of readers. Silicon pen pals.

our numbers have dwindled
I like any time I can use a form of the word "dwindle"
despite the various ailments that old people get
Hey.... who you callin' old ?
but seriously folks, we are a sturdy bunch of word wrestlers
and we are certainly friendly
