the tao of the surrendering hiker

walk with me brother and sister
along the trail of enlightened earth
allow the oft-tamped soil
of a million boots,
support my claim of magic
let this path of perception
open its evergreen doors
so your eyes may be submerged
for a little while in the sensual curves
of the determined river
this is my gift to you.....
her meandering is not happenstance
she is always moving toward
her love of the sea,
so permit your thirsty heart to drink
each step will become a soothing landscape
an interactive painting just for you
and if you mirror her eternal destiny
you will find your majesty of purpose
and you will never be afraid or alone
for you will be applying the colorful oils
to your masterpiece with the brush all around you,
to the canvas inside your ribcage.....
a synchronous bridge,
across the span of your soul

Wow...I'm a bit overwhelmed with all the nice words.......this came to me during 2 days .....after my last hike.....and was written at my bedside, just after waking from my nightly sleep.....I jotted it all down on a pad from my nightstand....in two parts....magic ?.....
So glad people can feel my love for the woods.....it's a truelove

I'm late to the party, but this says it all - the magic, the peace, the transcendence found in the simple act of putting one foot before the other - particularly resonant because until recently that simple act was too painful to be enjoyable. ('Course now it's too effing cold to be enjoyable - but that's a cause for impatience, not grief of loss...)
