Sympathy For the Devil

I heard a lot of otherworldly music back then
too many acts to list them all here for you......
Santana, Led Zeppelin, The Who
and the Rolling Stones and Dylan multiple times
if you'll allow me to drop just a few names on you

And it doesn't take away a god damned thang
because I won't be able to listen to those recordings again
those experiences will stand right as rain,
refusing to dry up, I've got them
under lock and key in a chamber in my chest

I can actually perfectly recall every melody
the tempo as fresh as a bakery's aroma
or a dipshit making an unwanted pass at a lovely woman.
I remember the venue, certain crazy people at the show,
the smell of the ganga, the light show, the pyrotechnics

and Mick Jagger swinging his removed jacket around in a circle
to tease the girls and boys...".Maybe he'll toss it to me !"
I remember Doctor John and his beat up piano
and his scantily-clad entourage of singers and dancers
wearing feathered boas, and oh my !.... B.B. King's beloved "Lucille "

I'm very thankful that I could hear back then
and that I made the scene on my meager budget
and I didn't get killed hitchhiking.....Hell.....No One
can ever take that away from me....You can take my ears
if you must,...... But you'll never get my soul !

I'll never scuba dive again -
never again float weightless in that alien world
like a neoprene astronaut
the hiss/boom of inhale/exhale
the bottom topography slowly appearing
as if from a dense fog
the bemused looks from striped bass:
"what the fuck is THIS??"...
but I'll remember

I'll never again climb Mt Monadnock -
the long uphill grind to the treeline
up the dried streambed
the scramble up the chimney
to that narrow rocky ledge that drops 15' either side
until bursting into the open air
blinking in the sunlight
like Dorothy climbing out of the storm cellar...
but I'll remember

I'll never again feel a woman's touch
the warmth of her body
the moistness of her lips
the soft pillows of her thighs
the urgency with which propriety fell away
as carnal pleasure swelled within us
a relentless drumroll of animal delight...
but I'll remember

Ahhh... the sweet/sour memories of THE MUSIC! was there anything that bettered those magical days still kept in me.

A treasure not to be forgotten as long as my memory continues keeping me ALIVE!
