Warm dog

It’s a bunch of warm fur that cuddles
Thank God for dogs

On the nights when love seems to vaporize


I reach for that warm little fur ball and tickle her belly
Then I go back to sleep
In my dreams
There are 3 husbands - one wants to party
One is apologetic
The other a king of this world

The witch from that strange place
Laying on her couch with a view of the river
Trying to squeeze the juice out of her rolled cigarettes
The house smells like animal hides and dust
Ashtrays full and overflowing
Her years as elder have gone by
Her need to be someone made her cross spiritual lines

I left the people I loved sometimes
The world called me to somewhere new
New language- new foods- new cultures

There is a little itAly hawaii Nigeria and oregon California-yeah
I lived in those places
Sometimes alone




In my skin I trace the faces of the ones I loved

the dog looks on
It’s summer in Chile
I’m cold enough to hug the dog for love
Good girl
Yes warm dog is better than wet dog
But that’s a whole other story
