I'm an old ax

I'm an old ax
cut a lot of wood in my day
mostly just splittin' cordwood
that someone else had felled
oh, limbed a fallen tree or two
cut 'em to length
so's they could be hauled away
but
that was then
this is now
my blade's not as sharp as it once was
so mostly I sit here in the corner of the toolshed
propped up against the wall
between the bowsaw & the loppers
three amigos growin' cobwebs
can't compete with the Stihl
all fancy an' loud an' smoky
does a good job, I guess
but jeez, all them movin' parts
an' that bottomless stomach -
he gonna go the distance
like we did?

very relatable.....
it seems aging involves acceptance
unless you like slicing off your fingers one by one.....
and patience and willingness to do less at a slower speed
and that ain't so bad.....it's just different...... 8)

it's an adjustment, for sure

I've just set the machinery in motion for my 2nd hip replacement - wasn't expecting it so soon after the 1st - I was up to 2-3 miles a day until mid-March, when the advancing arthritis put an abrupt end to it...

Guess my scuba-diving, mountain-climbing, woodland-bushwhacking days are over - and like you say, that's okay. I can't deny appreciating the deference that some of the younger cats have given this grizzled old cane-wielding hobbler - holding doors, offering their places in queues - maybe I can find myself a country general store with a wooden pickle barrel I can sit on in my woolen underwear and go on & on about the old days!

No matter how old our bodies become, it's our minds makes the matter...

My mate swears I'm loosing my mind. I say only loosing that which I have little need...

I do have problems carrying on talking, our recalling some things that bother me.

But my sense of humor still intact which gives me a type of strength that helps me.
