Ode to a Narcissist ( No hard feelings ) ( Really )

Post by saw » April 9th, 2023, 9:14 am

darting
in and out of years
on the planet
like a cosmic moth....
who knows why
the mind can't sit still ?

a morning dove coos
from the blue spruce
today's soundtrack
from a cloudless blue backdrop
rhythmic,
another layer of texture

mumbled sounds
can play tricks on your mind
as I try to reconcile the here and now
with these flights through time
I flash back
to that Steely Dan song

Reelin' in the Years
and wonder the exact same thing
you kept telling me
you were a genius
and I still can't understand
why
If you do not change your direction
you may end up where you are heading

introspection ... seems natural in the later days of life to reflect on how the earlier ones got us here... I think often of the women in my life - how they and the jobs I've held, the experiences I've been through - have sculpted me into whatever the hell it is I am today. No regrets - well, maybe a few - but overall I'm pretty content to have been an ordinary (if a trifle Odd) homo sapiens......

The more years we put behind us, the more material there is to review, and i would agree it is a very natural thing to do to head back in time and see how things added up ( as we perceive them )....my work demanded a lot from me, as for many...so we shouldn't be too hard on ourselves as we tally the score...to ignore this would be myopic....it played a part
Which is not to say that is directly the reason for This...or That, but it was a player......we only have so much creative energy to exert each day....be that in a relationship or anything really....so I tend to be kind when I rate my involvement....not Blind....but kind
If you do not change your direction
you may end up where you are heading

being kind to ourselves is one of the best lessons we can learn as we travel our lifespan

So true. Sometimes I can't help but feel I've "sold out" to a paycheck all these years. That's ok though. We can't all be Andy Warhol types...
