Neta & Iren, Kfar Aza, Israel, Oct. 7th, 2023

Post by the mingo » December 2nd, 2023, 2:01 am

their marriage had been set for April, 2024
but Neta is dead now.

he died in a tiny "safe room" throwing himself
on a Hamas grenade
giving Iren her only chance to survive

people come around now
asking Iren one stupid interview question
after another

her wedding dress, off camera,
hangs in the closet
the door is closed
Doll, you may have found a place of rest but I'm still on the trail.

Powerful piece, Mingo! Please continue writing this series! Your insights are helping me because I can’t write anything and I don’t know what’s happening and can’t figure out what to do because there’s nothing i can do and I am so upset…. And your poetry speaks volumes and it’s helping me thank you

Doreen,

I wasn't sure it could be done, Doreen. The enormity of subject would not allow a shred of phoniness, pretension, poetry, or "art" to be a part of any of it. That left only one way to go. Which was to let the facts, simply stated, to speak for themselves and to trust in that alone without any doubt or wavering.

What helped me to find solid ground to stand on in this whole fucking mess was seeing the celebratory attitude exhibited by the butchers as they attacked the settlements.

Once I saw that I couldn't un-see it.

I hope you will begin writing again soon because "truth is so important."
