My Nevada Wander

Years ago in a galaxy far, far away,
I slipped California through a gap in a hill
into Nevada, a different world, past fences,
over a ridge into desert solitude (is it real?)
until I was face to face with the great playa,
the great flat dry lake desert ocean universe.
There was cracked white clay everywhere
on what seemed the perfect blank canvas.
Infinitude to the north, thin trails into hills.
It seemed a realm of limitless wandering.
And I was mostly right.
And I'm still wandering.
