Lounge Lizard

I feel some days
like a lounge lizard....
in my own home, unable
to grasp the slippery motivation
necessary to accomplish things
stuck in idle
my mind says yes yes yes
but there is the invisible
force field surrounding me,
keeping me in my La-Z-Boy
and one can't help but feel
understandably ...like a....
Well....Lazy ......Boy
But I refuse to beat myself up
there is plenty of that going around
anyway, despite my intervention
and what's so wrong with identifying
with a reptile that likes music
in the first place

the work will always be there
tomorrow...
but today won't
( I hear ya. I have to flog myself to do what needs to be done - the allure of a walk thru the woods or along Scott Brook often proves too strong )

I hear ya roy....it's an observation I noticed because it was never my nature to be lazy...I had a long worklife with many long days and motivation was never an issue...so this new me is surprising....how easy it is to choose enjoyment over work...

retirement after a life of work and raising kids
odd freedom to do or not do
give myself a 5 pt. star each day
read
play instrument
do project
exercise
just for me
don't always get all 5 points
goals are good but
mine are more of a guideline

aah, life at the office
a culture of self-importance
daycare for adults...
the jargon:
"hear me! I talk just like el jefe!"
the aggrandizement:
"I stapled these sheets all by myself!"
the back-biting:
"my tie is straighter than yours!"
the opportunism:
"great idea! I think I'll steal it!"
how I miss it
forced into retirement
to spend my last days
roaming the natural world
to the sound of birds
the wind
rushing streams
and my own introspections...

Ha. "Lounge lizard" makes me think of some nicotine-infested bar in Old Vegas with loud, ugly carpeting and some insipid crooner wearing polyester.
As to your take on "lounge lizard," the ethic of "not doing" can be quite underrated at times.

Covering Barry Manilow tunes with a cheezy electronic keyboard & a 1970s vintage drum machine

in my lounge I get to choose the music, but ive alwyas loved the images "lounge lizard" evokes....yes I think much the way you'all have described....in my setting it is me crawling in an out of the recliner...usually needing all four limbs ...haha
