Winterfall

Post by sasha » Today, 4:27 pm

the days grow short,
the nights long and cold -
the moon climbs higher in the sky
than the sun...
another winter is on the way -
time to saddle up.
the storm windows have been lowered,
the furnace air filter replaced...
the snow shovel in the hall closet
now sits by the door,
gloves and cleats dug out of storage
and placed in plain sight...
my plowman has been reminded
to keep me on his list...
so for now I just wait -
wondering what I've overlooked...
wondering if I'm still up to this -
to putting another notch in a belt
already full of notches

.
