it's not a brainworm
but a song that sticks forever
several songs that
used to be in my repertoire
I have had to dump
just can't have them
rolling through my brain
all day a plague
all night a dream
so in order to rid myself
the only solution is to pass
them on to someone else
WARNING: do not sing these songs if suseptible to earworms
that's the way the world goes round
wellerman
down to the river to pray
strike the bell
knee deep
I'll fly away
son of a son of a sailor
there now I'm free!!

sorry, I posted something just after you did - didn't intend to trample on you - this comment should bump you back up to the top. In the meantime, I'll try thinking of some of my own demonic earworms.....

awright, I'm back. Some songs I could die happy if I never hear again:
99 Bottles of Beer on the Wall
Big Girls Don't Cry
How Much Is That Doggie in the Window (esp. the version with the yapping puppy - how precious)
The Beverly Hillbillies Theme
Blue Danube Waltz
anything opera
any Christmas jingle, but in particular
Deck the Halls
I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus
Off On A Rooftop
and I'm sure there are others I'm blocking from conscious recall

Undesirable earworms are unpredictable for me. Lately they tend to be ads repeating over and over and over, and god help me if their rhythms repeat in my head.

sorry, my earworms insist on staying with me
and I must say they comfort me, so I'd say my earworms are friendly earworms, nurturing earworms, companions for life
of course there are songs dread, but I'm able to keep them confined in the basement so far
to be honest it's very disappointing when i catch my self singing a jingle......luckily that's rare

"oh I wish I were on Oscar-Meyer wiener...."
(in charming Irish accent) "Manly, yes... but I like it, too"
"better coffee millionaires' money can't buy"
"it's the reeeall thing..."

oh yeah, I've got a few of those, too - bits of the incidental music from the "Shaft" & "Bullitt" soundtracks... guitar riff from "Secret Agent Man" (ever notice it's the same chord as the James Bond theme?)... the coda to Holst's "Mars, Bringer of War"... & some of Don Ellis's 7/4 romps can be pretty addictive....

I'd like to buy the world a coke is on my list. The profaning of world peace in the name of advertising.
