this is where we are
just like the signs in the mall
that say You are Here
the world spectates genocide

completely impotent to stop it
masked men invade US cities
kidnap, beat up, kill humans
again all we can do is watch

we've become societal spectators
like watching sports, or movies
helpless to alter misery in real time
left only to distract ourselves

by watching something other than the news
someone just gave me this really cool bird feeder
with a built in camera so i can watch the bird antics
on my phone, close up, and I'm so grateful

that this was an alternative payment for one of my paintings
I painted the dreams in my head, and received new dreams
we all will need as many distractions as we can dream up
as the distorted world collides with decency

yes, there's nothing
better for my mood than watching
a blizzard of juncos
fend off a big blue pig
(steller jay)

macaws dancing to reggae
donkeys opening windows and doors
dogs jumping into piles of leaves
babies giggling hysterically...
you needn't remind me
that the filth is still out there -
doesn't mean I have to wallow in it
24/7...
doesn't mean that beauty & whimsy
are forbidden topics...
absolutely no apology required
for cleansing one's palate -
'cause somebody's got to stay sane
in this fucking insane world
