Omniscient

You liked his early years best—
pinch and scrape and struggle,
the limited success, the lack of mess
less now because of all the quietness

Now he watches sparrows flutter
in an inch of water showing
miles of empty sky

Too late to turn life around, seeing
there’s so little of it left, though
some things could still be

managed in small doses:
never forget a friend, a kindness,
nor his Savior who died full of infamy

but lives on through tittle-tattle,
back-biting, slander, sin,
and jealousy

You are one fine writer! I’ve always loved your poetry! I don’t know how I missed this when you posted it. I’m glad I found it tonight.
