Vain glory, save when independent claimed
by that which shines so forth—weak praise received,
when suns rely on human eyes for awe
and light unseen falls radiated waste:
such glory, poorest analog for love.
May truth illuminate with unseen light
how love might better orient; and when
my love is glorified in freedom, then
it ought claim truth from love poured forth (not sight
of love in hope’s belovèd eyes) and prove
itself in beauty self-proclaimed. The haste
of love is for reception, but the law
of love is in its truth: love self-perceived
saves truest Gloria, resplendent named.
