apostrophe

i absolutely love apostrophes.

C'est 'l'apostrophe' en francais and ends in the 'ph' sound. I even love the words 'en francais' because if i had a french keyboard, i could dangle an extra little apostrophe underneath the 'c'.

you can do it easily by hand. in French, you can dangle apostrophes from just about every other word; under it, over it, slanted right, slanted left, even that little circumflex ^ which is especially nice when flared heartily. that one also makes a particular sound effect in my head when i write it. the French language offers a whole new place to draw an apostrophe. it takes the apostrophe to a whole new level. dangling, but as if from the ceiling of the room beneath yours.

i like to be pretty particular when drawing my apostrphes. i like to go back over my work a few times, really make that little circle round and fat, and ample, and giving. then really curve that tail back underneath it's bottom. tuck it in, nice and cozy. there you go. rest easy, little guy.

computer fonts do not generally have cozy apostrophes. a really good apostrophe can only be done by hand. with feeling. i enjoy accentuating my apostrophes. you've got to put your emotions right there, of that moment, into it. whatever you're feeling at that moment, if you put that into your apostrophes, it really shows.

there's an art to it that too few people appreciate.

An art indeed. Round, fat, ample and giving ... Alas, there is much lost in digital translation. I don't remember this one from the 1st go-round, but I want to bump it up.
