Now I Know

Post by Dixie » October 15th, 2005, 3:08 pm

It was once my own question,
why I began choking on you,
why you make my eyes tear up
and burn in my nasal passages
like pepper spray
when I used to drink of you so freely
and swallow you whole
as if I were bound in the desert.

Now I know.

Forgiveness never comes easily,
and sometimes it doesn't come at all.

It was my own denial
of what you have become to me,
a poison I've been consuming
and thought I was immune to.

Now I know.

Forgiveness never comes easily,
and sometimes it doesn't come at all.

"a poison I've been consuming, and thought I was immune to"

This line really calls to me.
The whole poem does, in fact.
Really good read.
