Free ride on the wind

Fall Carnivale!
Tree mardi gras!
"All leaves
get a free ride,
on the wind".

I watch
a hundred
drunken leaves fall,
outside my
free ticket window,
improvising glee,
in each woeful,
plummet dance.

I blush
at their
secret grinnings,
as victory reaches
eye to eye,
with cosmic joke,
twinkling, exchanging,
invisible private flashes,
before returning,
to forever,
which is where
they always longed to be,
since the
very
very
spring.

I hate the fall, the season of death, when I know
I will be cold for quite awhile. I'm a "child of the sun"....
or so it would seem...

But I love this poem...

shook me right outta my dour funk....

thanks, Hes.

I always saw them as angry leaves hanging on till their will to live was gone. Love your version better. "C"

that cosmic victory of death.

I always had a hard time with that one.

Then again, it is a free ride..
