AUTOMATON

Post by WIREMAN » October 25th, 2005, 12:55 pm

Automaton.....moving figures
from the Greek, did you know
their temples were palaces of "spirit gambling"

drop one silver shiny one
in the slot, the one with Alexander
on the side, get that holy water.....pay the price,

consult the Delphic Oracle, magic
appearing right before your very eyes,

sat in Pistola's living room
watching ancient inventions
on the tube, nothing else to do,

we damn sure were'nt gonna
work in that cold rain,

Heron of Alexandria fashioned the most
fantastic automated greek tragedy performance
play, a balanced puzzler, dolphins
jumpin from
sea,

2,000 years ago.........

Almost two full revolutions—
now fossilized as status quo
and most-of-the-time forgotten—
but back before time spun around
I admired Delphi's vision:

olive valley tree mosaic;
Mediterranean fingers
splayed on and on forever on;
down, spider-webbed and varicose,
and up, eternal vertical.

Now is not so Delphicentric—
but sometimes I'm tempted to strip
and flagellate my soul with soles
past ground down in oracle dust
from every Delphi where I've stood.
"Every genuinely religious person is a heretic, and therefore a revolutionary" -- GBShaw

The oracle of Appollo in the smokey cave
inhales the fumes of burning laurel leaves
illegal smiles
Doris day kay sir ra cir ra what ever will be
But I long for Greek Eyes, to see as they tought/thought.
